Huawei leads innovation with launch of new wearables in Berlin

Huawei has launched a series of a new smart wearables as people become more conscious of their health. 

The new watches launched at the Velodrome in Berlin, Germany on Thursday is expected to shake up the global wearable market as users look for affordable wearable devices with great battery life. 

Watch Fit 4

Huawei’s smart watches continue to dominate the market compared to those of its competitors, Apple, Samsung, Garmin and Honor among others. 

The Huawei Watch Fit 4 series comes with a cheaper price tag and better battery life but stays true to its signature square watch face which resembles the Apple Watch. However the devices has evolved from a rectangular face to the current iteration. 

Featuring an ultra-slim and lightweight design, the Watch Fit 4 Pro measures just 9.3 mm in thickness. It supports pro-level outdoor sports, including trail running, dive-depth of up to 40 meters, and golf mode, enhanced by the TruSense System for comprehensive health management.

The Huawei Watch 4 fit series will be available in South Africa from the 2nd of June 2025, retailing at R2 999.00 while the Fit 4 Pro retails for R4 999.00. 

Watch 5

The Chinese company also unveiled the Watch 5 introducing an  enhanced TruSense System, which now integrates the new multi-sensing X-Tap technology. 

It allows users to perform health monitoring with fingertip to ensure accurate, faster, and comprehensive health insights.

Additionally, gesture control has been upgraded to support double slide and double tap providing users with more intuitive interaction. 

The Huawei Watch 5 will be available in South Africa in purple and sand gold colours from the 2nd of June retailing at R9 999. 

While both Huawei smart wearables boast features that are on par with their competitors, Apple and Samsung have the niche with payments using watches. 

Huawei has not indicated when this feature will make its debut in South Africa, a question that many are waiting for answer for. 

Smartwatches

As more brands unveil their iterations of smartwatches, forecast indicate that the global wearables market is gearing up for a transformative year in 2025, fuelled by cutting-edge advancements and evolving consumer needs. 

Innovations like generative AI, enhanced connectivity, and a growing interest in health and fitness tracking are reshaping the industry. 

With more first-time buyers exploring wearable technology, the market is poised for exciting developments that promise to redefine personal tech experiences.

Buds and tablet

Alongside the Huawei wearables, the company also introduced several other flagship products, including the FreeBuds 6, and the MatePad Pro 12.2-inch.

The FreeBuds 6 are Huawei’s first open-fit earbuds to feature dual-magnetic driver units. It is equipped with noise cancellation technology and a droplet design. Arrival date and pricing of the FreeBuds 6 is yet to be confirmed.

The MatePad Pro 12.2-inch 2025 incorporates a paper matte display, significantly boosting screen brightness while enhancing its anti-glare and anti-reflection capabilities.

The tablet will be available in South Africa towards the end of July, with pricing to be confirmed.
