The LG XBOOM XL7S is the latest addition to the company’s speaker range with a lot of features, but it has a hefty price tag.

It’s designed specifically with partying in mind and capable of producing big sound compared to the many other options that are on the market.

While, I don’t listen to music, it really was a pleasure playing Islamic songs on the speaker which reverberated throughout our home.

I particularly enjoyed the lighting on the LG XBOOM XL7S which steals the show. But its impressive 250W of power delivered via a front-firing 8in woofer and two 2.5in tweeters take sound to another level and really shook and rattled some of the windows.

Connections

The LG XBOOM XL7S operates wirelessly over Bluetooth 5.1. Codec support is limited to AAC and SBC but there’s support for Bluetooth multipoint, meaning both you and a party guest can connect to the speaker at the same time.

Inputs on the speaker includes a USB-A port located under a flap on the rear of the device that can be used for playing MP3 or WMA files on a memory stick or charging connected devices.

The LG XBOOM XL7S is not light, weighing in at hefty 15.5kg. But it does have wheels which make it easy to cart around.

It’s IPX4-rated for water resistance, meaning it’s protected against splashes, but you probably shouldn’t leave it outside overnight if there is rainy weather, which we have been experiencing lately.

Controls

The LG XBOOM XL7S features rubberised buttons for power, playback, volume and the Sound Boost EQ mode are found in front of the handle, along with buttons to cycle through lighting options and switch between USB and Bluetooth sources.  There are also indicators for battery life and the Party Link feature, which allows you to pair the XL7S with another XL7S for stereo sound or up to 100 other LG speakers.

Lighting effects are one the LG XL7S’ awesome features,  but it also has karaoke capabilities if you like that sort of stuff.

Verdict

Battery life is respectable 20 hours with LED lighting off, Sound Boost turned on and songs playing at 50% volume.

I managed about 10 hours with all of the XL7S’ features active, most which are accessed via the LG XBOOM app, which provides you with various customisation options including the ability to personalise the lighting display, activate DJ effects and tweak the EQ.

If you’re in search of a powerful and feature-packed portable speaker, and are willing to fork out about R11K, the LG XBOOM XL7S is a comprehensive and versatile all-in-one option for the money.
