After 41 years of dedicated and loyal service, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has bid farewell to its spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Minnaar started his career on the 8th January 1981 as a Traffic Officer.

He has been described by many as someone who was always available, helpful, polite and professional.

Minnaar said he is honoured to have served so many years for the JMPD.

“I have worn my uniform and badge for 41 years with pride and as I retire I can look back on the service I gave to the Citizens of the City of Joburg with Honour,” he said in a statement on Monday.”

Johannesburg Executive Mayor Mpho Phalatse thanked Minnaar for his hard work and all that he has done for the city of Johannesburg and the country.

“You are still so passionate. Your uncompromising honesty even when you tell the hard truths. You not only inspire us, but you educate and you inform. You make it so fashionable to do the right thing.”

Safety and Security MMC for the City of Johannesburg David Tembe said Minnaar leaves the JMPD without any blemish.

“When you retire with honour, you retire with your rank.”

Former MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun said Minnaar’s voice was known throughout the country for his updates.
