The Trade Route Mall in Lenasia has lived up to its promise to the City of Johannesburg by donating a fire emergency services vehicle to Saaberie Chishty Society.

The handover of the much-needed fire truck was done at the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia on Friday and attended by the executive mayor of the city of Johannesburg Mpho Phalatse and MMC for Safety and Security David Tembe, among others.

The event was also attended by the wives of the late mayors of the City of Johannesburg Geoff Makhubo and Jolidee Matongo.

The fire truck initiative was sparked by Makhubo who instructed Yaseen Valli of the Trade Route Mall to donate a fire emergency services vehicle to Saaberie Chishty.

That vision was carried over by Matongo until his passing.

Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Mpho Phalatse said the donation is a milestone for the city.

“It’s not about Lenasia because whether its pockets of excellence in the city where we see strategic partnerships between government, civil society and the private sector working. We want to package that and replicate it to other parts of the city.”

The fire truck can store up to six hundred litres of water which Tembe said is ideal for fires that break out at informal settlements and rural areas.

“As a city we don’t have a response time because you can’t measure the response time. This vehicle is the answer because it can go to any informal settlement where the fire engine can’t go.”

Trade Route Mall’s Yaseen Valli who was accompanied by his brother Zain encouraged much more government and private partnerships to grow and enhance the city.

Saaberie Chishty’s Abu Bakr Sayed said the organizations vision is to serve.

“With this vision to serve mankind, we want to develop partnerships as we go along.”

The emergency vehicle was donated in the memory of Makhubo and Matongo.
