Mental Institution Allowed to Complete Diagnosis in Case Against Body Parts Accused Flavio Hlabangwane

The case against a man accused of murder after body parts were found in his fridge has been postpone to 18 March. 

Flavio Hlabangwane appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court on Friday. 

Hlabanwane was admitted into the Sterkfontein mental institution on 19 January following an application by the defense team for him to undergo mental observation after he attempted to take his life on two occasions since his arrest. 

The 26-year-old was arrested last year after his partner, who visited for the weekend, made the grim discovery and found human remains inside a fridge at his rented room.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Phinda s Mjonondwane said:  “The case against Flavio Hlabangwane was postponed to allow the mental institution to complete its diagnosis report on his mental condition.
