One Killed, Three Injured in Cash-In-Transit Heist in Vaalpark

One person has been killed and three others injured following a cash-in-transit heist on the R57 in Vaalpark.

Paramedics say on arrival at the scene on Friday, they found security van in the middle of the road while several motor vehicles parked a short distance away on the side of the road.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said two cars had caught alight in the collision.

“On closer inspection, medics found a man lying a short distance from one car. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to the gunshot wound to his head. Nothing could be done for him, and he was declared dead. Three security officers were also assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

Meiring said the patients were treated and transported to nearby hospitals for urgent care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
