Huawei Unveils Much Anticipated Mate 20 Pro

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has unveiled three new smartphones in the Mate 20 Series, the Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X with the largest in the line-up with its 7.2-inch OLED display and a massive 5,000mAh battery.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 Series is powered by the company’s latest Kirin 980 7nm processor, 128GB of onboard storage and 6GB of RAM.

The devices are the world’s first smartphone to support the 4.5G LTE Cat. 21 standard, allowing consumers to experience download speeds of up to 1.4Gbps.

It also supports the world’s fastest Wi-Fi connection speeds–2GB footage requires only 10 seconds to download. The top-end flagship also supports dual-band (L1+L5) GPS positioning technology. The AI GPS Satellite Selection technology enhances the positioning accuracy across a wide range of scenarios.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro features a 40MP main camera, a 20MP ultra wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. Together, the trio of lenses supports a wide range of focal lengths (equivalent to the performance of a 16-270mm zoom lens), enabling it to mimic the results from professional cameras.

The Mate 20 Pro is also the only device out of the three flagships with a working in-screen fingerprint sensor, which is used in addition to 3D facial recognition to secure the device.

Other features include support for Huawei’s new NM card format which are 45% smaller than SD cards. The new phones are also water resistant, and can be fully submerged up to half an hour at a depth of 2m.

Huawei has announced the Mate 20 Pro will be launched in South Africa on 23 October.

The company also launched two new wearables, the watch GT and Band 3 Pro. The new devices offer features for users to track their activities and receive fitness coaching based on scientific research.

Huawei also announced the official launch of EMUI 9.0, the custom Android P-based operating system (OS).

Available to Huawei and Honor devices, EMUI 9.0 goes out of beta with the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Series with new features for all supported devices.
