Al Aqsa Scoops Award for Top Independent School in Gauteng

Al Aqsa High School in Lenasia has scooped the award for the Top Independent School in Gauteng for 2021 in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.

This was announced by Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi at a breakfast on Friday morning to honour the province’s top performing matric learners.

Al Aqsa High which has become the more sought after school in Lenasia with high enrollment numbers achieved a 99% matric pass rate this year. 

A total of 93% of candidates obtained a bachelor’s pass, while learners recorded a total of 218 distinctions.

Principal Hamida Moosa said they are humbled and grateful to Allah for bestowing this honour on to the school.

“Our gratitude goes out to the parents, well-wishers, school board and management for their support and duahs. Ultimately though, we have to commend the teachers from pre-school to grade 12  their dedication, passion and commitment is helping to strengthen the ummah- may Allah reward them in both worlds.” 

Gauetng achieved an 82.8% pass rate which is a one percentage point decline from 2020.

The province also produced more than 47 000 distinctions.
