Police Seize Mandrax Tablets Bound for Cape Town Worth R4.3 Million

Authorities have seized Mandrax tablets worth over R4.3 million being transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town. 

Police and the Hawks responded to information and pulled over  two vehicles travelling with batches of drugs on the N2 highway 

The first vehicle was spotted on the N2 highway in Grabouw and after a search by police, 24 packets of mandrax tablets totalling 24 000 capsules valued at approximately R840 000 were found hidden behind back seat in a false compartment.

Meanwhile the second vehicle was spotted on the N2 highway in Heidelberg and after a search police, a total of 100 000 mandrax tablets contained in 100 packets hidden in a false or makeshift compartment under the flatbed were found. 

The Hawks’ Philani Nkwalase said two suspects aged 35 and 52 have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Grabouw and Heidelberg Magistrates Court on the 03 January 2022 facing charges of dealing in drugs.

“The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Brigadier Mushavhaduvha Ramovha applauded the joint police team for their collaborative efforts.”
