SA Records 687 New COVID-19 Infections with 79% in Gauteng

South Africa has recorded another 687 COVID-19 infectionS over the past day, pushing the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 2,929,800. 

The increase represents a 3.4% positivity rate. 

Two more people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 89,574. 

The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (79%), followed by North West and KwaZulu-Natal each accounting for 5% respectively.

Mpumalanga and Western Cape each accounted for 3%; Northern Cape accounted for 2%; and Eastern Cape, Free State and Limpopo each accounted for 1% of the new cases.

On the vaccination front, about 24.6 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far.
