Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for a group of criminals who murdered an 80-year-old woman in Louis Trichardt.

It is understood that the elderly woman’s son who is a police officer reportedly tried to call his mother several times but could not reach her.

The police’s Motlafela Mojapelo says the officer sent his partner to his mother’s house where he made the grim discovery.

Mojapelo says the motive for the incident is unknown at this stage and a case of murder has been opened.

“On arrival at the house, she apparently knocked several times without an answer and when entering the house, she allegedly found the old woman lying in a pool of blood. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned this incident and has directed that the killer(s) be hunted down and brought to book.”

Police have urged Trevor Gumbu, a Zimbabwean national who is said to be the elderly woman’s former employee to assist officers with investigations in the matter.
