COVID-19 Infections in SA Spike to More Than 4,300

South Africa has recorded another 4,373 new COVID-19 infections pushing the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 2,968,000. 

This increase represents a 10.2% positivity rate.

Twenty-one more people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 89,843.

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (72%), followed by Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, each accounting for 6%.

Limpopo and North West accounted for 5%, while Mpumalanga 3%, Free State 2% and Eastern Cape 1% – The Northern Cape accounted for less than 1% of today’s new cases.

On the vaccination front, about 25,5 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

The NICD says there has also been an increase of 119 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
