Women Killed, 5-Year-Old Injured in Potchefstroom Crash

A woman has been killed and a 5-year-old girl injured after their vehicle rolled on the R54 between Potchefstroom and Fochville.

Paramedics said on arrival at the scene on Thursday, they found the car on the side of the road.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said a woman and a five-year-old girl were found lying a short distance away while a girl, believed to be twelve years old, was walking around on the scene.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that the woman had already succumbed to numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for her, and she was declared dead. The five-year-old girl was in a critical condition, while the twelve-year-old girl had escaped with minor injuries. The young girl was treated and provided with advanced life support before being airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. The other girl was transported privately to the hospital for further care.”

Meiring said local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
