Vandals Desecrate Sheikh Nurul Mubeen’s Kramat in Camps Bay, Cape Town
Sheikh Nurul Mubeen’s Karat in Camps Bay in the Western Cape has been vandalised.
Vandals on Friday night spray painted anti-Semitic slogans across the walls of the Kramat.
Last week, 10 of 31 Kramats in Cape Town were declared national heritage sites by the South African Heritage Resource Agency (Sahra).
Luminaries like Tuan Guru, Sheikh Abdurahman Matebe Shah, Sheikh Yusuf, Sheikh Noorul Mubeen, Sheikh Abdul Mutalib and others were political exiles or slaves and were responsible for the introduction and spread of Islam in Cape Town and later across South Africa.
Their nomination was initiated by the Cape Mazaars Society (CMS) and Vidamemoria heritage consultants.
In a Facebook post, media personality Faizal Sayed said the perpetrators will be dealt with.
“The circle of doom has always been attacking the circle of tombs, but to no real avail. Last night the Mazaar, Kramat of Sheigh Nurul mubeen was the target. We know what the Kramats, the Awliya, Friends of Allah are to us.”
The desecration of Sheikh Nurul Mubeen’s Kramat has drawn outrage from the Muslim community in Cape Town.
