Two Suspects Nabbed for Truck Hijacking in Gqeberha, Goods Over R2 Million Recovered

Two people have been arrested after police recovered stolen goods worth more than two million rand in a truck hijacking in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. 

It is understood a driver and his passenger were travelling in a Nissan truck stocked with groceries on the N2 travelling towards Oudtshoorn when they were forced to stop by two suspects in another car. 

Police says the suspects stole the truck before dropping off the driver and his passenger in Motherwell. 

Spokesperson Gerda Swart said the security company called police after they noticed the truck had gone of the dedicated route. 

Swart said the  truck was found abandoned outside Kariega, with some of the load missing.  

“Further information was immediately followed up on and a large quantity of the grocery items were recovered on a farm. Two vehicles were also found with some of the stolen property already loaded into the vehicles.  The male driver and a second male suspect were arrested on the scene on charges ranging from hijacking to possession of suspected stolen property.” 

Swart said the suspects aged between 31 and 34 are expected  to appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s court on Friday with more arrests expected soon.
