Special Task Forces Storm St Georges Hotel in Pretoria after Military Veterans take Modise, Gungubele & Makwetla Hostage
The Special task forces have stormed the St George’s Hotel outside Pretoria after Defence Minister Thandi Modise, Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele and Deputy Defense Minister Thabang Makwetla were taken hostage by the Military Veterans.
Newsroom Afrika reports the special task forces have made arrests after the hostage situation on Thursday from 7pm until 10pm.
It is understood the ex-combatants are said to have demanded to see President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Deputy David Mabuza and also wanted government to give them R4 million each for their role in liberating South Africa
The news channel reports that disgruntled military veterans barricaded doors refusing the ministers to leave the hotel.
“They [Special task forces] broke down the doors and fired stun grenades. We understand there was a commotion and some members of those military veterans have been injured. They have now been rounded up by law enforcement.”
Modise, Gungubele and Makwetla have been escorted to safety by the special forces who stormed the meeting hall.
