“South Africa is Stable…There is no Panic” – Cele Reminds Police of Their Duty Ahead of SONA

Police Minister Bheki Cele has reminded officers of their duty to ensure that South Africa is safe and protected.

Cele was a addressing a parade of SAPS members and other Security forces at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town ahead of the President Cyril Ramaphosa’s state of the nation address on Thursday evening.

This years Sona is being held the Cape Town City Hall following the fire at the Parliament buildings.

Cele said both South Africans and guests will have to be safe since

“South Africa is stable, there are things that will happen and we would be taken care of, there is no panic. There is nobody that should think that South Africa is under any form of attack. Therefore, people must not begin to panic and run around”.

Cele told the officers that they must be kind but also be firm in their duties.

“You know what you supposed to do. That’s a call one makes to all people that would be attending tonight especially the members of parliament, the politicians, the visitors, the guests, everybody to behave to make life easy for the police so that we make life easy for you.”

Cele said officers had a constitutional obligation to protect citizens
