The Tinder Swindler has been trending on South African social media networks as viewers flock to watch the a new true-crime documentary on Netflix.
The documentary tells the story of Shimon Hayut or Simon Leviev a convicted fraudster born in Israel who filmmakers claim scammed dozens of victims, mainly women, for an estimated $10-million (about R156-million) after matching with them online on Tinder.
Radio presenter Anele Mdoda is among the thousands of people who have been left shocked by “The Tinder Swindler”.
Mdoda tweeted: “Send money now, MY ENEMIES ARE AFTER ME”
Interpol eventually nabbed Leviev in Greece and the Israeli police were able to extradite him for fraud, which lead to a charge of 15 months in prison.
