SA Records 4,592 COVID-19 Infections, 161 Deaths

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 161 COVID deaths in the last 24 hours but warned that due to an ongoing audit by the Health Department there may be a backlog in cases reported. 

As such, the NICD reported 64 fatalities of the 161 daily count over the last day or two which pushed the death toll to 93,278

The NICD said there was a 12.5% positivity rate after 4,592 cases were picked up in the same cycle. 

This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to more than 3,556,600. 

The recovery rate stands at 94.5%, meaning over 3,360,879 people had recovered from the virus. 

On the vaccination front more than 28,8 million doses have been administered.

The NICD said there has also been an increase of 73 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
