Realme’s budget-beater C61 Smartphone debuts in SA
With a constrained economy and cash strapped South Africans, buying a new smartphone can burn a hole in your pocket, especially when it’s from the likes of Apple and Samsung.
South Africans are beginning to realise that all the bells and whistles in premium smartphones can also be found in budget phones for under R10,000 like the newly launched Realme C61.
The C61 detract from the likes of Apple and Samsung with a R6,000 price tag which lets face it is affordable if you are searching for a budget phone.
Realme, one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brands and it expected to ruffle the market with the C61 or is it? Read on to find out.
What’s the deal?
Designed to empower you to live life to the fullest, Realme said the C61 lets you take great photos as well as enjoy smooth, responsive productivity, games and media.
Camera quality is pertinent when it comes to gen z’s and with the proliferation of artificial intelligence, you can get that great shot and share it on the socials, but the Realme does have an outdated camera system.
“C61 is a smartphone that will be your companion for many years, offering plenty of storage for your media, an unprecedented battery guarantee, and the performance you need to multitask across your favourite personal and work apps. All this power comes packed into a phone thinner than 10 credit cards stacked together,” said Jace Chen, Realme’s country manager for South Africa.
With the progression of technology at a rapid pace, today’s new tech literally becomes outdated tomorrow and with mobile brands launching devices every year, people have the tenacity to want to upgrade from a smartphone of yesteryear.
Not ideal for gaming
Realme’s coy about the chipset powering the C61, but according to GSMArena the smartphone packs a 12nm Unisoc Tiger T612 chipset.
Sadly, this may not be ideal for gaming or heavy multitasking, and with the lack of 5G, the word “budget begins to shine bold and bright.
The C61’s 50MP camera sensor is one of the highest-resolution sensors in its price range compared to other brands but with a low 720p display resolution and no 4K video recording, it is a dampener.
The Realme C61 is equipped with a 5000 mAh non-removable battery which is a standard for many budget phones.
Available in sparkle gold and dark green, the Realme C61 is available from R5,999.
