Rand Water says Several Reservoir Levels Critically Low After 54-Hour Maintenance Project
Rand Water says several reservoirs are currently very low due to the recent completed maintenance programme on the B11/B19 pipeline.
The bulk water supplier has kept to its deadline of completing its 54-hour maintenance project after it announced the refurbishing of its raw water pipe at the Vereeniging purification plant on Wednesday.
It’s understood that the additional pipe will allow for more water to be added to the system.
Rand Water says the reservoirs in a number areas are currently very low and will take time to recover to full capacity.
It says Meredale and Foresthill reservoirs are critically low at 0,58m and that the low levels are currently having an impact on several municipal reservoirs within the Johannesburg Water network.
“Full pumping supply to these reservoirs has been restored and Rand Water will provide Johannesburg Water with 2 hourly updates on the status of these reservoir levels, until Johannesburg Water is able to start pumps from their Foresthill tower to supply water to the affected areas.”
The current level of Foresthill reservoir is 0,58m and a head of 1,5m is required before water can be pumped from the Forest Hill tower. The following reservoirs and towers under Johannesburg Water are affected:

- Crown Gardens
- Eagles Nest
- Naturena
- Allenmanor
- Crosby
- Brixton
- Hurst Hill
- Waterval Tower
- Linden Tower
- Quelerina Tower
- Florida North Tower
- Constantia Tower
Rand Water says consumers within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality are requested to be patient and to use water sparingly during this period to allow the systems to recover fully and put water back into the various Rand Water and municipal reservoirs.
