Police to Continue Moti Brother Kidnapping Investigation Despite Lack of Cooperation from Moti Family

Police say the investigation into the kidnapping of four Moti brothers will continue despite the lack of cooperation from the family.

It is understood that the Moti brothers father Nazim has interdicted the police from speaking to the children who were apparently traumatized after their kidnapping ordeal.

The Moti brothers, 15-year-old Zia, 13-year-old Alaan, 11-year-old Zayyad and 7-year-old Zidan were kidnapped  on 20 October after the car they were being driven in en-route to school was cut off by two others along the Tzaneen bypass before seven heavily armed men dressed in white overalls made off with the boys.

The Moti brothers were found safe in Vuwani outside Thohoyandou in November last year after they were dropped off by kidnappers.

The police’s Robert Netshiunda said the Moti family has not been cooperating since the four brothers were found.

Netshiunda said the Moti family has since relocated from Nirvana in Polokwane to Dubai.

“Police investigations into the case involving the four Moti brothers are continuing despite the fact that the process has been destabilized by non-cooperation from the family since the children were found last year. Our investigators were prevented from obtaining a statement from the victims with the father of the victims opting to obtain the interdict against the police. It was very important for the police to interview the victims so that we could establish a lead which could probably lead us to the arrest of the perpetrators.”

Earlier, social cohesion activist Yusuf Abramjee said the Moti family’s unwillingness to cooperate with police on the kidnapping of the brothers creates a perception that crime pays.

“I think that the mere fact that the family or the children do not want to cooperate with the police is now going to open the way for this gang to continue to run terror and perhaps target other families.”

Abramjee said it was still crucial for the police to try and find the gang involved in the kidnapping.
