Police Praised for Swift Identification of Lenasia Man Dumped in Roodeplaat Dam Through DNA
The Police Victim Identification Centre has been praise for their swift identification of a Lenasia man whose mutilated body was allegedly dumped in the Roodeplaat Dam.
The body of the 43-year-old man was positively identified as Zeyn Khan by police through DNA analysis.
Khan was reported missing on 28 November and his mutilated body was found on 28 December last year.
The police’s Robert Netshiunda said police divers responded to reports of an incident where a group of people who were fishing claimed to have heard an approaching vehicle and immediately thereafter heard what sounded like an object being thrust into the water.
“Following the post mortem report, members from the Victim Identification Centre (VIC) consulted with families who had reported missing persons, for purposes of collecting DNA samples. Following the collaboration by the SAPS Tshwane Water Wing and the Kameeldrift Detectives, the VIC on 06 January 2022 confirmed that the DNA results matched that of Mr Zeyn Khan.”
Netshiunda said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and murder of Khan remains the subject of police investigations.
No arrests have been made.
