Police Nab Suspect in Possession of Kruger Rands & Anglo Boer War Memorabilia in the Free State
A 36-year-old man has been arrested after he was found in possession of valuable antique goods including Kruger Rands and memorabilia from the Anglo Boer War to the value of about R600,000.
The suspect was handcuffed on Friday by the Parkweg Tracing Intervention Unit in the Free State.
Police say they received information about the suspect who was allegedly in possession of Kruger Rands.
Spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says the man was found with a plastic bag in a meter taxi near the Municipal swimming pool.
“In the plastic bag and in his pockets of the trouser, members found Antique watches dating back in the 1800’s period, binoculars used by the Anglo boer War soldiers, Antique knives, medals and coins. All to the value of approximately R600 000. The suspect could not give police a clear explanation of where he found the valuable Antiques.”
Makhele says the suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate court for possession of suspected stolen goods.
