One killed, another wounded in Lenasia Trade Route Mall shooting

Lenasia police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder after a shooting at the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia. 

Police said they received a complaint of the incident on Wednesday and on arrival found members of SAPS K9 Johannesburg Unit who alleged that there was a shooting between the security officers and an unknown suspects. 

The police’s Bafana Ndimande said one suspect fled on foot.  

“It was further alleged that the security officers gave chase to an unknown African male who was in possession of a firearm. The male shot at the security officers and they shot back at him. He was shot on the lower body and fell as a result. The officers found a male who was estimated to be around mid-thirties on the ground with a gunshot wound. The paramedics were summoned to the crime scene and certified the victim dead.” 

“The security officer sustained a gunshot wounds on his lower body and was taken to hospital for treatment. The pathologists transferred the deceased to Diepkloof Government Mortuary. The motive of the murder and attempted murder is unknown at this stage,” Nidimand said. 

Ndimande has appealed to the community to assist police with information to further the investigation.
