Nearly Two Hundred Illegal Shacks Demolished at Lawley Informal Settlement near Lenasia

Nearly two hundred illegal shacks have been destroyed at the Lawley informal settlement, south of Johannesburg.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) were in the area to monitor the operation on Tuesday.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar said the structures that were demolished included galvanized zinc sheet, brick and mortar structures.

“The demolishing of structures was done by a service provider and these types of operations are ongoing to break down more illegal structures in terms of operation Buya Mthetho.”
