KZN Councillor, Nephew & Friend Arrested for Murdering Three Family Members & Wounding Seven Others
A KwaZulu-Natal councillor, his nephew and friend have been arrested in connection with the murders of three family members and the attempted murders of seven others.
The trio aged between 24 and 43 who were on run were handcuffed during an intelligence driven operation in Umlazi, Isipingo and Okhalweni, Engilanyoni Mid Illovo on Tuesday.
Police say a fourth suspect is still on the run.
The suspects are facing a number of charges including seven counts of murder, three counts each of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
It is understood the suspects have been attacking a family whose relative was elected as a ward candidate in Mid Illovo.
The police’s Thembeka Mbele said the family went into hiding but were found by the suspects who demanded that they reveal the whereabouts of the ward councillor candidate.
“When the family refused to disclose his whereabouts, the suspects fired multiple shots injuring seven and killing three people before damaging their property.”
Mbele said among those wounded were two teens who were rushed to hospital by the community for medical attention.
Mbele said the suspects are expected to appear in court soon
