Kidnapped Vereeniging Businessman Zaheer Asmal Freed

A Vereeniging businessman who was kidnapped at his shop in De Deur has been freed.

According to a tweet by anti-crime and social cohesion activist Yusuf Abramjee, Zaheer Asmal from Fred’s Hardware was reunited with his family on Monday night.

Asmal was kidnapped last week Wednesday.

While there has been a spate of high profile kidnappings in recent weeks in the country, police are cracking down on the syndicates.

Last week, a 37-year-old man believed to be the mastermind and alleged kingpin behind a spate of high profile kidnappings in Gauteng , Maputo and Mozambique was arrested. 

The man and three people believed to be his associates were handcuffed during an intelligence driven operation in Brackenhurst, east of Johannesburg on Wednesday.
