JMPD: Over 20 Accidents in Joburg Due to Weather Conditions
The Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) says there have been over twenty accidents across the city of Johannesburg as wet weather conditions continue to persist.
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) on Friday warned of severe thunderstorms across Gauteng and other provinces with heavy rain, damaging winds, larges amounts of small hail and localised flooding.
The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says the wet weather conditions have made driving difficult on the roads.
“A total of 21 accidents have occurred in Johannesburg since 6am this morning. Two occupants were trapped inside their vehicle which overturned on the N12 East near Xavier Street offramp. Motorists are urged to exercise caution on wet roads. It is necessary to reduce speed, to keep headlight switched on.”
Minnaar has also urged motorists to avoid driving recklessly during the adverse weather conditions.
