JMPD Officer Commended for His Bravery After Rescuing Two Toddlers of Building Ledge in Joburg CBD
A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer has been praised for his bravery after rescuing two toddlers from the ledge of a building in the Johannesburg CBD.
It is understood the girls climbed out of the window after they realised that their mother had left them alone to go to the butcher while they were sleeping.
The JMPD said Tebogo Mailula was on patrol in the city as part of BuyaMthetho campaign with three other officers when they noticed the two little girls aged 2 and 5 walking on a ledge of the third floor of a building with a member of the public trying to reach out to them from the ledge of a lower floor.
MMC for Safety in the City of Johannesburg David Tembe has commended Sergeant Mailula for his bravery.
“Acting Sergeant Mailula has today saved the lives of two little girls. I commend him for his swift action and bravery for having requested the caretaker to unlock doors for him to reach the little girls who were shaking and crying on a ledge of a building from which they could easily have fallen and possibly died.”
The girls were handed back to their mother.
Tembe said Mailula was also shaking after he rescued the girls and had to sit down to calm his nerves.
