“ICASA Will Commence Auction of Broadband Spectrum in About Three Weeks” – Ramaphosa #SONA2022
President Cyril Ramaphosa said communications regulator, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICSASA) will commence with the auctioning of the high frequency communications spectrum.
Ramaphosa was delivering the state of the nation addressing on Thursday evening.
The president’s remarks comes after ICASA accused Telkom of deliberately working to stall the upcoming auction of spectrum after it filed more legal papers in the high court this week, citing flaws in the process.
Ramaphosa said the auction of high frequency communications spectrum by Icasa will take place in about three weeks.
“This will unlock new spectrum for mobile telecommunications for the first time in over a decade. In addition, we will facilitate the rapid deployment of broadband infrastructure across all municipalities by establishing a standard model for the granting of municipal permissions.
Ramaphosa said these reforms will revolutionize the country’s technological development, making faster broadband accessible to more people and reducing the costs of digital communications.
