The Health Ministry has confirmed that the Director General of Health, Dr Sandile Buthelezi, has been placed on precautionary suspension.

The department’s Foster Mohale says Buthelezi will be suspended until he appears before a disciplinary hearing regarding his role in Digital Vibes saga.

Mohale says Dr Nicholas Crisp, the Deputy Director General responsible for National Health Insurance, will continue to act until the hearing process has been concluded.

In June, President Cyril Ramaphosa placed the health minister Zweli Mkhize on special leave so he could respond to allegations against him in the R150 million Digital vibes saga.

Mkhize later resigned.
