Excitement Builds as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prepares to Host First Ever F1 Grand Prix in Jeddah

Formula 1 fever and excitement is beginning to spread to Saudi Arabia as the Kingdom prepares to host its first ever F1 Grand Prix in December. 

The inaugural race is expected to take place in the Red Sea city of Jeddah from 3-5 December. 

In line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative, the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) has worked tirelessly to merge the same ambition, passion and desire for a brighter future with the values of the 2021 Formula 1 STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix values. 

The floodlit circuit will run over 6.175km (3.8 miles), the second longest on the calendar, and will feature 27 corners. 

The Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is just part of a much wider vision for the Kingdom’s future. 

Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman says there is a bright future for Saudi Arabia. 

“The future of the kingdom is bright and promising and our nation deserves more than it has already achieved. We will double our capabilities to further contribute to the making of this future.” 

Ministry of Sports’ HRH Prince Abdul-Aziz Bin Turki Al Faisal Al Saud says sports are a pillar of the Kingdom’s transformation.

“Formula 1 races will play a major role in our future by providing a wonderful opportunity to enhance positive social advancements and offering additional entertainment options that enrich people’s and lives and motivate them to engage in new experiences. “ 

Ross Brawn, Managing Director of Formula 1 Motorsports and friend of former F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher says the circuit will be very challenging for the drivers.

“It has some great features that they’ll love, and of course, it’s the fastest street circuit in the world”

While ticket prices range from 2,000 Saudi riyals (R 7,786) for the basic packages for three days and 35,000 Saudi riyals (R 136,000) for the VIP package for three days, Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Faisal, president of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, said there was a “huge demand” for tickets, even at a time when travel remains difficult because of the pandemic.

With the new 2022 Formula 1 calendar released, a new date for the second chapter has already been confirmed when Saudi Arabia will play host again to the F1 GP on 23 March.
