Energy Dept Adjusts Petrol Price Increase to 75 Cents per Litre after Mistake
The Energy Department said that it made a mistake on Monday when it announced that petrol was going up 81 cents a litre from Wednesday 1 December.
The department announced that both grades of petrol, 93 and 95 octane will increase by 81 cents per litre.
However, the department says this price was incorrect and has since adjusted the increase in the petrol price to 75 cents per litre.
“While the reasons for the fuel price adjustments remain as communicated, the accurate petrol price for December 2021 will be adjusted as follows, petrol (both 93 and 95 ULP & LRP) 75 cents per litre increase. The 6 cents difference is due to the fact that the adjustment of wages for service station workers had already been implemented in September 2021.”
The department says although it is for the very first time that such an error has occurred in the history of basic fuel price determination in South Africa, it has apologised for the inconvenience.
The department says the rest of the fuel prices are correct.
