DA Calls on Gauteng Health to Review Hospital Security after Daily Vehicle Theft at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling on the Gauteng Health Department to urgently review its hospital security contracts following the daily theft of cars at the facility.
In a statement the DA’s Jack Bloom says some staff at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital have embarked on a protest over the car theft which they say management is ignoring.
Bloom says he has spoken to nurses who say cars are stolen daily, and are in constant worry about the safety of their vehicles.
“Following the fire at the hospital in April this year, staff have had to park their cars in different places, including the street outside. The thefts occur despite a whopping amount of R40.1 million that is spent annually on security at CMJH.”
Bloem says other thefts at the hospital this year include copper pipes worth R30 million and items worth about R200 000.
