Body Parts Murder Accused Flavio Hlabangwane to Undergo Mental Evaluation after Second Suicide Attempt

The man accused of murder after body parts were found in his fridge is expected to undergo mental observation after attempted to take his life again. 

Flavio Hlabangwane appeared in the Protea Magistrates’ Court on Monday. 

The 26-year-old was arrested last week after his partner, who visited for the weekend, made the grim discovery and found  human remains inside a fridge at his rented room.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane says Hlabangwane attempted to take his life on two occasions, hence the application for his mental state to be examined. 

“The court further ordered that he be detained at the hospital section in Johannesburg Correctional Services as he may require medical attention and/or special care.”  

Hlabangwane pointed police to the Klip River on Abu Bakr Asvat Drive  in Lenasia where it is believed he disposed of the torso, but nothing was found.
