Back to School – Makhura: Gauteng Committed to Ensuring Effective Learning & Teaching in all Schools
Schools across the country began the first day of the academic year with millions of new and returning pupils ready to start the third year under the COVID-19 regulations.
On Tuesday, basic education minister Angie Motshekga said the rotational timetable will continue across five provinces to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Schools in Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Free State open on Wednesday.
In Gauteng, Premier David Makhura, Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and Infrastructure Development MEC Tasneem Motara visited schools in Sebokeng.
Makhura said the province is committed to ensuring that effective learning and teaching takes place in all schools in Gauteng on the first day of the new academic year and beyond.
“In 2022 we must do everything we can to return to a flying machine. No single school, department or municipality has an excuse. We must resolve all basic service delivery issues. We must get all learners back to school and deliver optimal outcomes. We want a province that’s pumping.”
In Lenasia, teary eyed parents and excited children were among the scenes at the Al Aqsa Nursery and Pre-School as the pupils embark on their academic education.
