Apple has announced a new updated iPod touch with enhancements to power, capability and communication.

It’s the first update to Apple’s iPod product since the sixth-generation iPod touch was released in July 2015.

The Apple-designed A10 Fusion chip in the new iPod, which is the same one found in the iPhone 7, brings improved performance in games, and for the first time on iPod, immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences and Group FaceTime.

iPod touch comes in a new 256GB capacity, giving plenty of space to download music for offline listening through Apple Music or the iTunes Store.

Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing Greg Joswiak says the new iPod has a number of improvements.

“We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality. The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.”

The new iPod touch is available to order on apple.com and the Apple Store app starting Tuesday and in stores later this week.

The new iPod touch starts at £199 (R 3700) for the 32GB model, £299 (R 5500) for the 128GB model and £399 (R 7400) for the 256GB model and is available in six finishes; space grey, white, gold, blue, pink and (PRODUCT)RED.
