Amnesty International: Tutu was a Beacon of Light for Human Rights Movement

Amnesty International South Africa said Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was a beacon of light for the human rights movement in South Africa and globally, and his death is a huge loss.
President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed the passing of Tutu on Sunday.
Tutu affectionately known as “the Arch” had been fighting prostate cancer for about two decades.
Amnesty International South Africa’s Shenilla Mohamed said Tutu’s commitment to equality and rights for all served as a much needed moral compass during the turbulent apartheid era.
“Even after South Africa obtained freedom in 1994, the Archbishop continued to be an outspoken, passionate human rights activist He was never afraid to call out human rights violators no matter who they were and his legacy must be honoured by continuing his work to ensure equality for all.”
Amnesty International South Africa has sent its condolences to the Archbishop’s wife, Mam Leah Tutu, his family and friends
Tutu was the last surviving South African laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize.
