Huawei Unveils Mate XS Foldable Smartphone, New Tablet & Laptops

Chinese tech giant Huawei did not let the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) stop it from unveiling a number of new products including the second-generation Huawei Mate XS foldable smartphone. 

The press conference was live-streamed from Barcelona under the theme “Connecting Possibilities.” 

The Mate XS comes with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and a 4,500mAh split battery. 

It retains the same 8-inch display when unfolded as seen last year and when folded, you get a 6.6-inch almost bezel-free front display and 6.38-inch rear display.

Huawei has also enhanced the Falcon Wing back-to-back folding design, which looks and feels smoother than the previous model. 

The upgraded Huawei Mate XS will retail for €2,499 for the 8GB RAM, 512GB storage variant and will be available for purchase later this year.

The Chinese firm also announced the world’s first 5G-connected tablet, the MatePad Pro 5G. 

Powered by Android, the 10.8-inch tablet packs the Kirin 990 5G chipset with either 6 or 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a 7,250mAh battery. 

Huawei’s tablet has a couple of unique features which includes two-way wireless changing, the ability to mirror the screen of a paired smartphone. The tablet will ship with open-source Android, without Google’s apps or services.

Optional accessories for the Huawei MatePad Pro 5G, includes a detachable keyboard stand cover and a M-Pencil stylus which can be magnetically attached to the device and charged just like the iPad Pro. 

The MatePad Pro 5G will retail for €749 for the 8GB RAM, 256GB storage model and will be available from April 2020. A limited Wi-Fi only model will start at €549 for the 6GB RAM, 128GB storage option.

Huawei has also unveiled upgraded versions of its MateBook laptop range with a number of updates, including the addition of Intel’s 10th-generation Core i7 CPU and Nvidia MX250 discrete graphics.

This MateBook boats a 13.9-inch edge-to-edge display and an impressive 16GB of RAM with 1TB of SSD storage.

The Chinese company also spruced up the MateBook D lineup with Intel’s 10th-generation mobile chips, almost bezel-less 1,920 x 1,080 IPS LCD displays and can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The new MateBook D laptops will be available in 14-inch and 15.6-inch versions from April 2020 and retail for €1,499. 

Huawei also got the media salivating when it announced it will unveil the world’s most powerful 5G smartphone on the 26th of March in Paris, France.
