[UPDATE] North West Man Sentenced to Life for Murdering Niece & 12-Year-Old Son
A North West man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his niece and her 12-year-old daughter in Tigane, near Hartebeesfontein.
David Khoza appeared in the Stilfontein Regional Court on Wednesday where sentenced was handed down to the 43-year-old.
Police reports reveal that Khoza broke into the house on 29 May 2012 where the two were staying and slit their throats before fleeing the scene.
Officers were led to his house where they found bloodstained clothing linking Khoza to the crime.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s Henry Mamothame said Khoza pleaded not guilty to the crime.
“The state Prosecutor Adv. Christoffel Kok urged the court not to deviate from the minimum subscribed sentence, given the brutal nature of the crime. He further argued that Khoza was a remorseless individual who did not value the lives of women and children. The court shared the same sentiment as it imposed a life sentence to Khoza on both counts of murder.”
North West Director of Public Prosecutions Dr Rachel Makhari-Sekhaolelo welcomed the sentence saying the Criminal Justice System is advocating strongly against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide as well as the abuse of women and children and such convictions are a step in the right direction.
