“Typhoid Cases Not Linked to Tap Water” – Rand Water
Rand Water said its water is safe to drink and is not linked to the recent typhoid cases.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) dismissed social media posts doing the rounds regarding enteric fever, also known as typhoid fever, as false information.
The social media posts making the rounds alleged that the is typhoid in municipal water and claimed that there are cases in some towns or provinces.
Rand Water said drinking water treatment processes are effective in inactivating harmful bacteria.
“Rand Water maintains intensive water quality monitoring programmes. Escherichia coli, a bacteria that is used as an indicator for the presence of faecal pollution and disease causing organisms such as Salmonella typhi, has not been detected in the drinking water supplied by Rand Water.”
Rand Water said it drinking water complies with standards and is safe for human consumption.
