Motorists & Residents Urged to be Cautious Amid Protest Action Over Electricity in Lenasia South

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said officers are being sent to the scene of a protest action in Lenasia South.

It is understood that protestors blocked Wimbledon and Andes Street with rocks late on Wednesday night over the lack of electricity.

According to Lenasia South residents, the protestors allegedly threatened to burn down the substation.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar has advised motorists and residents to be cautious.

”Protestors are stoning vehicles. Officers are being sent to that area to assist with diverting of traffic.”

Earlier, Lenasia South security groups assisted to ensure that the protest did not escalate.
