Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service officials who detected hotspots in the basement of the National Assembly said the heat posed no potential for flare-up or danger to anyone.

The engineers from the Public Works and Infrastructure Department have been conducting inspections and detected the hotspots in the basement of the damaged National Assembly building on Wednesday.

Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said the fire department will submit a full report to Parliament.

“This is a precautionary safety measure to avert any potential flare ups and there is no immediate danger to either the inspectors on site or the general Parliamentary community.”
