Transnet has suspended The Blue Train operations due to safety concerns.

This comes after a fire that broke out in a luxury Blue Train coach last week Tuesday.

The coach was at the company’s engineering facility in Koedoespoort for repairs.

In a statement, Transnet said it will conduct a full analysis following the “recent unfortunate incidents that have befallen the Blue Train.”

“The suspension of The Blue Train is effective from 14 February 2022 until further notice. Whilst the service is suspended, all Blue Train staff will be required to assist at the depot/offices as directed by the Acting Operations Manager & Executive Manager: Tourism, Heritage & Hospitality until further notice.”

Transnet said three people were seen fleeing the scene after the blaze broke out.

One person was apprehended by Transnet security personnel and handed over to the police.

Two others are still at large.
