The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said there is heavy traffic congestion on the N12 at Midway offramp due to protest action in Protea South, Soweto.

Protestors have blocked off Abu Baker Asvat Drive in Midway, Soweto with rocks, burning tyres and debris between Chris Hani Road and the N12 highway.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar said the situation is tense.

“Motorists can use K43 offramp and drive through Kliptown or Orlando as alternative routes this afternoon.”

JMPD officers will be monitoring the area.
