A 42-year-old woman who was reportedly kidnapped in Durban has been found  safe.

Zahera Bana Mohamed was reported missing on Wednesday.

She was located by Reaction Unit South Africa after they received a call from a resident in Ottawa about a “hysterical female running on the road.”

Reaction Unit said officers arrived on scene and identified Mohamed.

“According to Mohamed, she was accosted by two armed men near the Verulam Bus Rank yesterday morning whilst on her way to board a taxi to work. She was forced into a vehicle with four men and a woman and was given a medication that forced her to fall asleep. She awoke later at an unknown location and was asked to contact her son telephonically and request R2 million for her release.

Mohamed told Reaction Unit SA that she informed her kidnappers that she did not have children.

“She was kicked several times and questioned repeatedly.  When it was established that she did not have a son, she was forced to sleep on the floor for the duration of the night. She was accompanied by the four men and a woman in a silver Mercedes Benz with NRB registration. They dropped her off on Old Main Road in Ottawa and fled.”

Reaction Unit SA said a case of kidnapping is being investigated.
