Two boys have drowned in separate incidents at a quarry dam in Ikageng, Potchefstroom.

In the first incident, ER24 were called to the dam by the police dive unit last week after a 14-year-old boy disappeared into the dam.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said: “After a few minutes of searching, the dive unit found the boy’s body and brought him to the awaiting paramedics, who declared him dead.”

Meiring said paramedics returned again to the dam on Friday after an 8-year-old boy had gone missing whilst swimming.

“Once again, the SAPS Dive Unit searched the waters for a few minutes before finding the boys body. Unfortunately, nothing could be done by paramedics, and he was declared dead.”

Meiring said the details surrounding the incidents are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Last week, the Water and Sanitation Department warned the public to stay away from rivers and dams to avoid any incidents after the rise in dam levels.
