Water & Sanitation Dept Warns Public to Stay Off Rivers & Dams

As dam levels continues to rise, the Water and Sanitation Department has warned the public to stay away from rivers and dams to avoid any incidents.

The department said the recent rains have increased some dam levels across the country. 

In the North West, dam levels have slightly decreased from 75.0% to 74.6%.

Those that have improved include Buffelspoort from 100.7% to 100.8%; Lindsleypoort dam from 38.6 % to 39.2%; Taung from dam 98.6% to 99.2%

Hartbeespoort has slightly decreased from 96.5% to 96.2%.

The Vaal currently stands at 108% full, while the Sterkfontein dam is at 101.4% and Bloemhof at 109%. 

Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said this time last year, the Provincial water storage recorded a 64.5% capcpaity 

“Communities must continue to apply water conservation even amidst this rainy season.” 

Ratau also encouraged communities to harvest rain water and to fix leaking taps and pipes.
