Police Arrest Suspected Cellphone Tower Battery Thieves

Two cellphone tower batteries thieves have been arrested and another killed following a shootout with police in KwaZulu-Natal. 

A fourth suspect is still on the run. 

Police say they reived information about the four suspects who were tampering with cellphone tower batteries with intention to steal.

The police’s Nqobile Gwala said the suspects were traced and they were located at Nyezane area in Amangwe. 

“When police approached the suspects, they were met by a hail of bullets and there was an exchange of gunfire. One of the suspects was fatally wounded and two were arrested. A pistol with three rounds of ammunition, two vehicles, an angle grinder and a crowbar was found from the suspects.” 

Gwala said the suspects aged 26 and 35 will appear in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges of attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearm, ammunition and tampering with the essential infrastructure.
